Health & Wellbeing

The Healthier Child Project

Here at Preston Hedges Primary, we understand the need for everyone in our school to have a healthy lifestyle. This will help pupils and staff to do their best and build on their achievements.

We actively promote physical and emotional health, and equip pupils with the understanding and skills they need to make informed decisions about their health, both now and in the future.

By championing healthy eating, healthy lifestyles and emotional health and wellbeing, we want to continue to raise standards and improve levels of pupil achievement.

To support our aims, we have recently enrolled onto the Highly commended, award nominated ‘Healthier Child Project’ in partnership with Northants County Council. In the coming months Paul Evans (Healthy Child Advisor) will work with us to incorporate aspects of the Healthier Child Initiative into our schools day, addressing all areas of health and wellbeing across the board.

What a fantastic start we have made to improve our Health and Wellbeing at Preston Hedges! A big thank you to all the children who have made an effort to bring in a healthy snack each day. From berries to olives, the teachers have been amazed at the variety of choice there has been.

From September 2016 our next challenge is to ensure every child is having a health lunch. We will be asking that each child who brings in a packed lunch is provided with a balanced meal consisting of different items from the following list.

• Starches
• Milk and dairy foods
• Fruit and vegetables
• Meat, fish and alternatives
• Snacks and confectionary
• Drinks
For further information about each of these food groups please click on the link below to see the healthy lunchbox guide from Northamptonshire council.

Below are some websites, providing additional guidance on preparing and providing a balanced diet for your child.

We would like to say a big thank you for your continued support.
