Girls County Football Finals – January 2018
On Monday the 8th January, Preston Hedge’s Girls’ Football team participated in their second Football tournament of the academic year. After their amazing success in the District finals the girls were eager to continue their winning streak – this time in the Northamptonshire County Level Finals, which were held at Kingswood Secondary school in Corby. The squad of ten braved the appalling weather conditions and gave every match their best, eventually surpassing the group stages of the tournament and making their way to the semi-finals. Unluckily, the girls lost 1- 0 to strong opposition. Unfazed, the girls played the other semi-finalists for the elusive 3rd place ranking and the opportunity to win medals. During there last game, the girls demolished the opposing team and cruised to a 2 -0 victory – finishing 3rd overall in the entire county! Throughout each game the girls displayed tremendous sportsmanship, co-operation and resilience and should be really proud of their efforts – they thoroughly deserved their medals! Well done Girls!
Northampton Town EFL Cup – December 2017
On Friday the 1st of November, two Year 6 football teams competed in the annual EFL Northampton Town FC football tournament. The weather was bleak and the pitches were thick with mud, yet our two teams threw themselves into every tournament game with gusto, enthusiasm and determination. So many school values were evident in the teams’ attitudes and performance during the day, which helped both teams power through to reach the semi-finals. After a tough group battle, each team finished as runners up in their group. The team manager could sense an all Preston final, however after an action-packed semi-final match, sadly one of the teams crashed out of the cup in a dramatic penalty shoot–out. This left one team standing! Luckily, they managed to claw their way to victory in their semi-final match against a very skilful Boothville side. Thus the scene was set for Preston to avenge the loss of their fellow team in the final. Despite giving it their all, our finalists conceded an early goal, leaving them stunned. In order to claw back a victory, the team threw everything at the opposition, but could not break through their defence… The final whistle blew and Preston finished as runners up overall. Although the teams did not get all the results they wanted, they displayed amazing sportsmanship and politely shook hands with the opposition. In summary, both teams were resilient, co-operative and brave on the day leaving their teachers immensely proud of their achievement and conduct. Well done lads!

Girls Football – November 2017
The Year 6 girls that represented Preston Hedge’s Primary School took part in their first football tournament of the year and got off to a fantastic start. The whole team showed brilliant enthusiasm in their three group stage matches, pulling out 2-0 victories in each of the games. The group results propelled the girls forward into the semi-finals where they faced local rivals, CCS. After a nail-biting start, we scored the winning goal which sent PHPS into their first tournament finals. Undefeated to this point, momentum was with the team and they were determined to take home the medals. After some near misses and super saves, the teams could not settle the score in normal time. Penalties it was. Our Goalkeeper, made some great saves and it finally came down to a game-deciding penalty which she finished with confidence. The girls played brilliantly and all deserve their medals. As a result, the girls have progressed to the county tournament to be held in January where they can continue their undefeated start. Well done Girls!
