Sports Premium & Sport
Sport is incredibly important to us at Preston Hedges, not just because of the healthy benefits for all our pupils, but because it teaches our pupils about resilience, determination and co-operation. We are passionate about opening our pupils eyes to a wide range of sports, which encourage them to enjoy sport and ensure they are active during school and beyond. Highlights from our sports offering include Karate, trampolining, archery and many more; we are determined to continue to offer a wide range of opportunities to our pupils during their time at Preston Hedges.
The school receives additional funding from the government to support children to be more active.
Please see the link below for the strategy for 2021-2022. This will be updated across the academic year.
Schools have a duty to report how we have used the Sports Premium funding. The links below show the use of the funding for the period 2020-2021.
Due to the impact of Covid-19 and the closure of schools from March 2020 on Year 6 and swimming, we do not have up to date figures for proportions of Year 6 swimming ability in 2020-21.
Our most recent figures show the following proportions.
Percentage of pupils who can:
- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres – 95%
- use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke] – 85%
- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations – 100% of pupils understand ways that they can perform safe self-rescue.
As a school and as a Trust, we firmly believe that competitive sport is an important part of school life as it builds resilience and enables children to celebrate non-academic success.
Covid-19 has hugely impacted on our usual year round focus on competition, but please see below some highlights of 2019-2020.
